Just to meet my quota of nerd-content posting, the following .au plug-ins have been making me happy lately:
Stillwell Audio Rocket Compressor - The single best compression plug-in I've ever heard. Insanely fast attack time, and a ton of settings for parallel compression, sidechaining and multiple ratios. It will bring everything out, so just make sure you've dealt with any noise issues before you throw this on, cause it will absolutely let you know if you don't. It can have a somewhat harsh character if you're not careful, but that also makes it really nice when combined with a more subtle compressor that is only functioning to smooth out some of the rough edges.
Stillwell Audio Event Horizon - I fucking hate mastering. I don't trust myself to do it, I don't trust recording engineers to do it, and I don't even trust about 95% of paid mastering engineers to do it. Not only does it require a lot of specialized knowledge, and an insanely high-end, purpose built set up, but it's also one of those really annoying things where you kinda just have the ear for it or you don't. And if you don't, then you stand a high chance of absolutely fucking everything up. That said, anytime you make a recording and need to get your mix up to a reasonable, consistent sound level, you're going to have to do something that at least approaches the realm of mastering. Event Horizon is one of the best tools around for getting mixes up to a good level without fucking everything up. It's an amazingly transparent limiter that will pull the volume up without getting muddy or clipping, unless you want it too. I find myself having to pull back on it a bit because it can actually make mixes too loud.
Note: The Stillwell Audio stuff isn't free. They give you an unlimited evaluation period, where the only limitation is a 10 second wait before you can edit any parameters, which is really nice since it encourages you to keep using it, and pay them when you get the chance. But Stillwell's stuff is all really nice, intensively designed software, so when you get the chance, please do give them money. They ask for comparatively little for the quality.
Vacuumsound ADT Now, this is actually free, and incredibly useful. Just a basic DSP version of the double track tape machine from Abbey Road. Fairly simple, with low CPU usage, but it sounds great. Much better on vocals and hi-hats than spreaders and stereo delays, and far easier than manually detuning and nudge another track, with far less risk of phase cancellation.
There's one other thing I've been using the shit out of, but I'm not posting about it because it makes me feel like a bit of a fraud.
